Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular System Cardiovascular health covers many areas, including asthma, high cholesterol, high blood pressure (HBP), and atherosclerosis. These health issues affect people in different ways, and don’t necessarily become an issue based on age.

  1. Asthma: Common in children and adults, this chronic disease is marked by airways becoming swollen or inflamed, typically caused by some problem including environmental allergens, colds, stress, and exercise. Dr. Maura’s integrative approach includes the following: food allergy elimination, home allergen evaluation, nutritional medicine, vitamin and mineral supplementation, homeopathy, botanical medicine, and detoxification. Dr. Maura will also evaluate your overall health, stressors and immune capacity in coming up with a treatment plan.
  2. High Cholesterol: While cholesterol is an essential building block for things the body needs: hormones, bile, cell membranes and vitamin D, too much of it can wreak havoc on the system resulting in heart attack, stroke and peripheral vascular disease. Dr. Maura’s also heavily emphasizes diet and exercise, but leans towards natural substances—botanicals, vitamins, essential fatty acids—to lower cholesterol levels. Hormone levels will also be considered.
  3. High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): The force with which your blood moves from your heart through your arteries is called blood pressure. The harder your heart has to work to pump blood through your body, the higher your numbers. Typical causes fall into two categories: primary/essential (no seeming cause and often attributed to genetics) and secondary (kidney issues, adrenal gland tumors, medications, to name a few reasons). Dr. Maura relies on botanical medications, nutritional changes, biotherapeutic drainage, homeopathy and vitamin/mineral supplementation to bring the body back to balance from hypertension. Heavy metal toxicity is also considered, evaluated and, if need be, treated.
  4. Atherosclerosis: A form of arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) atherosclerosis is marked by the build of plaques (in the form of cholesterol and fat) on the walls of arteries both large and small. Blood flow is impeded and risk of heart attacks, blood clots and strokes is increased. Dr. Maura will work with a patient to develop a personalized diet and exercise plan, in addition to indicated vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Methylation defects might also be evaluated and treated.
